Una serata al cinema

“Una serata al cinema”, a monthly screening of Italian films with English subtitles, offers the opportunity to explore the Italian society between 50’s and 70’s.

An introduction by Professor Gino Moliterno, from the Australian National University in Canberra (Lecturer in Film Studies and Art History), outlines the significant elements of the movie, taking into account the historical, political and social aspects.

Food and Film Festival

This project was launched in 2001 as a dinner dedicated to Oscar winning director Federico Fellini. Professor Peter Bondanella, the world’s leading expert on Fellini, entertained the audience with personal anecdotes of the director, while elite chefs from Sydney’s finest Italian restaurants created an Italian feast.  In 2003, the festival was held in Burwood as a 4-day event with a dinner launch and 3 films at Greater Union Cinemas. The Centre intends to develop the festival as a yearly event with the possibility of organising it in other places within Australia

Culture and Cuisine

One of the Centre’s on-going programs consists of organising evenings dedicated to an Italian city whose exquisite culinary delights are served in the traditional atmosphere. The food, prepared by some of Sydney’s top Italian Chefs, is complimented by sensational live music performances.  These dinners will be conducted annually during the Ferragosto celebrations.

Carnevale di Venezia 2010

The real ‘Carnevale’ celebrations held annually in Venezia were brought to Sydney.

Food, music, images and artistic talents mesmerised the audience who was captivated by the excitement and true spirit of the evening. Historic characters, traditional masks from the ‘Commedia dell’Arte’ and musicians walked through the audience as part of the most beautiful and most famous event in Italy. The event is unique evening of fine food, masquerades, entertainment and dancing.
